The 2012 ORA State Singles Championship & Intercollegiate State Championship Racquetball Tournament was held at The Heights’ Racquetball and Fitness Club. The club is located in Huber Heights, Ohio and the tournament was held on March 10th and 11th. Eighty-Four (84) participants came in from all over the state to play in 20 different divisions. The tournament director was Doug Ganim, presently ranked second in Ohio and 73rd in the nation. The tournament was a USAR Sanctioned Event sponsored in part by Head Pro Penn.
Special awards were given to several participants including some of our own, including a Sportsmanship Award to Herman Mitchell (left picture) and a Collegiate Scholarship Award to Dillon Hayes (right picture). Congratulations!

It’s easy to think Steve Strandemo is biased when he calls racquetball “the perfect sport.” He’s in the Racquetball Hall of Fame and was ranked among the top 10 players in the world from 1973 to 1986.
But as a sport for beginners to use for fun and exercise, his points are hard to argue with.
“It’s really easy to get started and get yourself to a level of competency where you can have fun and get a great workout, and if you’re having fun you’ll want to keep playing,” says Strandemo, who is now a racquetball instructor in San Diego.
“In tennis, if you hit a ball an inch too low you hit the net. An inch too high and the ball goes long. That kills a lot of rallies. Chris Esterline has donated a computer which is located just past The Heights’ check-in counter. You can now challenge and enter results for ladder matches. This will allow for the possibility of multiple challenges each evening.
